My neighbor Mrs. Neelam’ story –

yesterday we went on
a night wedding that was some miles away from home. So
due to long distance travelling as it is winter season we left
our dog in our living room so he will feel cozy and left him
with his essentials and bowl of his meal. When we came
back we noticed that our newly bought carpet was totally
torned and found the scratching paws of my dog which
instincts why my dog did so?! He has never done so earlier!

I m having a German shepherd
dog in my house for the last 4 years as he is very friendly
with my daughter so spends most of the time with her and
stays in the room only for most parts of the day. We usually
see he scratches the carpet of my daughter’s room
occasionally especially more in the night time. Is it the instinct to

and hence putting his anger or showing his behavior by
scratching.

Soothes the mindset –

Another reason that perpetuates is the cam and cool effect or
any kind of stress free motion being observed by dogs when
they are doing such kind of activities because many time some
dogs have been seen scratching floors, carpets , mats and even
wooden pallets as it relaxes up their mindset and gives them
calm effect to body and soul.

Meeting sound sleep needs –

It has been noticed that it is seen as a habit of scratching things
in many of the dogs at varied times .sometimes dogs perform
such things because it is the planned surface by them for
sleeping. So it is evident that dog do scratching to make their
sleeping area comfortable hence gives them relaxed and sound
sleep.

Changing weather conditions

One of the prominent reason of the research as many times when
dog needs cozy, calm, warm nature they do so. Especially in
winter season when they are feeling cold and chill outside so to
make their body and fur warm they do scratching things which
absorbs and becomes heated surface for them to get soothing
hotness at their place.

Repetitive nature –

Some dogs have been observed as having instinct of doing
certain motions again and again which makes them excessively
happy of their activity. So same way if one your dog scratches
the carpet, he might feel it soft and fluffy stuff and would like to
repeat such attempts just as to make himself happy and
satisfactory of his activities. So this can also be mentioned as
one of the reason.

In some stories I have read that some dogs are obliged to do so
even if they don’t wish to do so just by seeing the carpet in front
of them something initiates them to start scratching over it. Why
this could be so! So to answer it is the reason for some behavioral
issues with them mostly seen in street dogs that are in habit of
scratching and tearing things.
Remedies to resolve this issue are must because the huge
damages to carpets each day cost many economical losses to the
owner as carpets are costly one moreover also it is very difficult
to change and clean the carpet torn fur on a regular basis. Also it
will be difficult in the long run the dog may turn violent and start
scratching other costly products.

Spend some time –

The most effective way to solve his anxiety issues and make him
calm in nature you must spend some time with your pet try to
take him for long walks, play some funny games with him, train
him timely and provide him the comfort level and make him
enjoy your company so he will back to his refreshed mood and
will avoid these practices.

See a Veterinarian –

If you think your dogs behavior has some issues, he is insisted
from inner self to do such activities then there is a need of
seeing a doctor immediately because these can become
dangerous in the long fun for your belongings as well as for your
dear ones.

Practicing exercises –

Some kind of activities like taking for long walks, playing
Frisbee game with him, training him , teaching him certain
habits or manners in a friendly way or any other such fun games

So from my research, I got some clues which I have mentioned
and can be referred to whenever the question arises why my dog scratches the carpet or anything. My concern was to make you

perspective, a well-managed timetable and some planned
activities with your dog helps to improve his habits and can
also restrict him from not doing it ever and again. Love your
